Waste in the Howe of Fife
Household Bin Collections
Most households have three waste bins which are collected once a fortnight.
Find out when your bins are collected.
- Blue bins = paper and cardboard
- Brown bins = green garden waste, such as grass clippings and weeds
- Grey bins = anything you can't recycle or reuse.
Local recycling
Though facilities at some recycling points vary, most can be used to recycle
- food and drink cans
- glass bottles and jars
- plastic - Type 1 & 2
- and textiles
Every community in the Howe has access to at least one local recycling point, see below. For details of facilities at each recycling point, click the links.
- Dunshalt has one recycling point at Ivy Place
- Auchtermuchty has four; at Westland Park, Burnside, Cross Road car park and the Low Road
- Collessie has one at Victory Hall
- Letham has one at the Letham Village Hall
- Bow of Fife does not have a recycling point, the nearest one is Letham
- Giffordtown has one at the Village Hall
- Falkland has three recycling points; at Back Wynd, Castle Park & Pillars of Hercules
- Newton of Falkland has one on the Main Street
- Freuchie's recycling point is at Freuchie Primary School on Lomond Road
- Ladybank has two; at the Ladybank Tavern and the Railway Station on Victoria Street
- Gateside's recycling point is at Gateside Memorial Hall on Main Rd
- Strathmiglo has three; on Cash Feus, at the Village Hall and Kirk Wynd
The nearest staffed, recycling point is Ladybank Recycling Centre which allows a much wider range of materials to be recycled such as such as batteries, electrical equipment or scrap metal. It is open 7 days a week 8am to 6.30pm (Oct to March).
