Waste in the Howe of Fife

Household Bin Collections

Bin Collection calendarMost households have three waste bins which are collected once a fortnight.
Find out when your bins are collected.

  • Blue bins = paper and cardboard
  • Brown bins = green garden waste, such as grass clippings and weeds
  • Grey bins = anything you can't recycle or reuse.

Local recycling

Though facilities at some recycling points vary, most can be used to recycle

  • food and drink cans
  • glass bottles and jars
  • plastic - Type 1 & 2
  • and textiles

Every community in the Howe has access to at least one local recycling point, see below. For details of facilities at each recycling point, click the links.

The nearest staffed, recycling point is Ladybank Recycling Centre which allows a much wider range of materials to be recycled such as such as batteries, electrical equipment or scrap metal. It is open 7 days a week 8am to 6.30pm (Oct to March).

Waste Aware ScotlandWaste Aware Scotland has lots more info on what you can do to reduce landfill and recycle more household waste.
