  1. Ramblers Association: Pitmedden Forest Walk

    Saturday, 2nd August, 2008

    Join the St Andrews and NE Fife Ramblers Group for an 8 mile walk on forest roads and round Pitcairlie Hill with good views to the Tay and Lomonds. Note: No dogs please.   2. Introduction to Slow Food

    There are currently eight Slow Food convivia in Scotland (including Aberdeenshire, Ayrshire, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth). With increasing interest in local food, we are now looking at the possibility of setting up a Slow Food Convivium for Fife. We hope that this group will bring together like-minded people, organise events and exchange information about good food and drink in the area. We intend holding a free ‘Introduction to Slow Food' event on Tuesday 5th of August at 7pm at the Fisher and Donaldson's bakery and restaurant at 1 Ceres Road, Cupar, KT15 5JT. The evening will include a chance to sample some of Fisher and Donaldsons finest produce, a talk by Donald Reid (food journalist and Leader of the Edinburgh Slow Food Convivium), and cookery demonstrations and tastings by well-known local chef and author Christopher Trotter.   3. Letham & District Flower Show

    Saturday, 9th August, 2008

    Come along to th 106th Annual Flower show and Industrial Exhibition, as organised by the Letham & Distruct Horticultural Society. There's a huge range of categories to enter or admire, including vegetables, pot plants, cut flowers, top tray, top vase, fruit, handicrafts, baking, photography, jams and jellies, wine and beer, produce and children's sections. Full schedule of categories are available from committee members or at Bow of Fife Post office, cost £1 (to non-members). The day itself kicks off at 2pm with prize giving and raffle at 4pm. Entry free to members and £1.50 to non-members. Don't miss this historic and entertaining community event.
  4. Breakfast: Surviving the Economic Downturn

    As the effects of the credit crunch become ever more apparent and the threat of recession looms over the whole economy, now is the time to ensure that your business is proofed against a slowdown within the economy. Business Gateway, working in partnership with Fife Council and Scottish Enterprise is sponsoring a short breakfast seminar commencing at 8.30am on 12th August, 2008 at Rothes Halls, Glenrothes. The event is aimed at outlining some of the threats which firms may face, the differing economic environment and the actions you can take to protect your business. We will also be highlighting assistance available to businesses and the opportunity this downturn may present. Business Gateway Fife Growth Advisers will be present at the seminar should you wish to take the opportunity to meet with them and/or arrange a follow up session at a later date.   5. Fife Farmers Market - Cupar

    Cupar Farmers’ Market is held on the Third Saturday of every month. Likely producers include Iain Spink (Traditional Smokies From Arbroath), Puddledub Buffalo and Pork, Bellfield Organic Nursery, Caurnie Soap Co, Gartmorn Farm Poultry, Fletchers of Auchtermuchty and Hilton Wild Boar.   6. Basket Making Course

    Saturday, 16th August, 2008 — Sunday, 17th August, 2008

    Join us at Monimail Tower on the weekend of 16/17 August and learn how to make a basket in a traditional style. The course is run by Jane Wilkinson, an experienced and talented basket maker. All materials and tools supplied. Take your basket away with you at the end of the weekend.     Get involved with Fife's First Outdoor Access Festival which is hosting outdoor events across Fife the weekend on 29 to 31st August. Local activities include: Falkland to Tyndall Bruce Monument Circular Walk via Maspie Den on 30 Aug, Pitmedden Forest Circular, and Exploring the Lomonds on the 31st.   10. Falkland Estate Paths and Heritage

    Join the Fife Coast and Countryside Trust Ranger Service as part of the Fife Outdoor Access Festival for a guided tour around Falkland Estate paths. Have a look at how land uses past and present has shaped this estate. The walk will be split into two sections. For the less mobile come along and enjoy the all abilities trail around the lower part of the estate. Our finishing point will be back at the carpark. For those who prefer a longer hilke come and explore more of the Estate and it's features. The walk will continue on steeper tracks taking in the elevated views over this wonderful estate returning back in time for sunset. Strong footwear required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.   11. Falkland to Tyndall Bruce Monument Circular Walk via Maspie Den

    Saturday, 30th August, 2008

    Organised as part of Fife Outdoor Access Festival - a walk for the reasonably fit. Includes a 200m ascent. Walking boots recommended. A walk through the picturesque and historic village of Falkland, past Falkland Palace and then into Falkland estate. The walk continues up Maspie Den with its impressive waterfall, which pass you pass under and onto the lower reaches of the Lomond Hills (with a detour to Tyndall Bruce Monument, then return). Walkers should bring a packed lunch, and/or visit the local eating places in Falkland after the walk. Plenty of craft shops for those wishing to do some shopping. £5 per ticket. Suitable for children aged 15 year and over, if fit. Not suitable for dogs. Led by the Fife Ramblers Association
  12. Exploring the Lomonds

    Join the Fife Coast and Countryside Trust Ranger Service as part of Fife Outdoor Access Festival for a walk around the beautiful Lomond Hills Regional Park. Take in the magnificant views as you walk the hills from Falkland to Glen Vale. Walkers to bring a packed lunch. Dogs allowed. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please reserve a place to avoid disappointment.
  13. Pitmedden Forest Circular Walk

    Sunday, 31st August, 2008

    Organised as part of Fife Outdoor Access Festival. A circular walk for the reasonably fit with walking boots seriously recommended. This complete woodland walk includes lovely views over central and west Fife. Across the River Tay and onto Angus and the Grampians. Walkers should bring a packed lunch and camera. Charge: £5.00 per ticket. Suitable for children if fit. Not suitable for dogs. Toilets at the start of the walk. Led by the Fife Ramblers Association
