Strathmiglo United 2-3 Low Water MW

From Alistair Jack, Monday, 8th February, 2010

United's interest in this season's Scottish Cup came to an end when they lost out to the hard working Hamilton based West of Scotland league club, Low Water MW.

The visitors looked lively straight from the off but it was the hosts who had the better of the early chances. Anderson and Gordon Clark had efforts stopped by keeper McGurn. With ten minutes on the clock Low Water opened the scoring, Cumming split the Strath defence setting up Moir to fire home from close in.

Their lead lasted all of two minutes G.Clark crossed for Liam Baillie to head in the equaliser. For the remainder of the first period it was cup-tie end to end stuff, Kirkwood denied Moir and McBride (twice) whilst G.Clark's effort cannoned off the cross-bar.

Within a couple of minutes of the restart, Strath were dealt a double sucker punch. Kirkwood  could only parry Daly's cross and Cumming was all on his own to stab in the rebound.

Immediately afterwards came a third for the visitors. Strath were let down by some poor defending that allowed Moir to cut the ball back into the path of McBride who blasted it into the far corner.

Unfortunately Strath struggled to recover from this body blow and for the rest of the game looked lacklustre, indeed but for a couple of fine saves by Kirkwood, McBride and Cumming might have compounded their misery.

In the dying minutes McLaughlin pulled a goal back but it was too little too late and United can have no quibble about the outcome of the contest!

Team: Kirkwood, Patrick, Williamson, O'Leary, Nicoll, McKie, McIntosh, Ford, L.Baillie, G.Clark, Anderson.
Subs: McLaughlin, Evans, Gardner,Spence, D.Baillie, Meikle, R.Clark
