Strathmiglo post office service may be reprieved

From Fife Herald, Saturday, 6th February, 2010

Convenience store chain David Sands has confirmed its interest in keeping the service alive when the existing post office closes.

There have been fears that the service may cease for good when sub-postmaster David Proud retires on 8 February.

Ewen Chisholm, chief operating officer of David Sands, told the Fife Herald the company was currently in the midst of the application process.

He said: "We have shown an interest in continuing a post office service in Strathmiglo and it's now in the hands of the Post Office.

"We believe it would be good for the community - it's certainly something our customers have been voicing strong opinions on, as it's something they feel is important to the village."

The Kinross-based chain already has a store on Strathmiglo High Street, and would be looking to open the post office within those premises.

The news will come as a boost to local residents, with Auchtermuchty and Strathmiglo community council this week expressing "great concern" at the forthcoming post office closure.
