More success for Shukokai Karate in Fife

From Stuart Maxwell, Monday, 8th March, 2010

Sunday the 28th of February saw the Shukokai students from NE Fife, Glenrothes, Levenmouth and Kirkcaldy congregate at the Chapel Community Centre, Kirkcaldy for their grading examination and course. And after a gruelling 2 hour exam I'm delighted to report all the students passed. Congrats to you all!

That evening Linzi McCann from Kinglassie Primary School presented to the class, the awards she received at the recent "Kirkcaldy Area Sports Council Annual Sports Awards Ceremony".

Linzi who is 60% blind, was awarded

  • The Fife Police-Junior Award and
  • The PLM Optometrists-Disability Award

at the Adam Smith College event, in recognition of her outstanding achievement last year - Linzi was the first ever junior student to receive a medal in the 2009 British Karate Federation "disabled kata section". Not only that, Linzi won silver whilst competing, remarkably, against adult black belts. Well done again Linzi!

SKAS update

The junior and adult students have no time to rest on their laurels this year. They are already heavily involved in training for the forth coming Kobe Osaka Scotland & the Scottish Karate governing body national and international competitions to be held in Scotland this year.

The highlight for our Fife students this year is the Kobe Osaka Scotland inter-school inter-region karate competition in aid of the British Armed Forces charity "Help for Heroes."  This unique event will be held at Kirkcaldy High School on Sunday 6 June 2010, from 10am to 5pm.

Anyone who is interested in helping with this charity event or in finding out more about the benefits of  enrolling themselves or their children in karate, should see our ‘Teach Me Something New' feature in this week's Glenrothes Gazette or contact stuartmaxwell04@btinternet.com.
