Alarm sounded for more firefighters in Auchtermuchty

From Fife Herald, Saturday, 6th February, 2010

Auchtermuchty fire station has made an emergency call to people in the village.

Station manager Tom Fox is seeking potential firefighters for Muchty's retained duty system, which has seen its numbers dwindle recently.

Retained firefighters are trained members of the community who respond to emergencies on an 'on-call' basis and are often in normal full-time employment.

Tom explained that signing up can be a rewarding and worthwhile experience.

He said: "Apart from the excitement, the challenge and the satisfaction of a job well done, working with the Fire and Rescue Service gives you the chance to work as part of a professional and effective team.

"You'll become more self-reliant and confident, learning new skills that can be of benefit in all aspects of life, not just within the fire service itself.

"It can also be financially rewarding - as well as a basic annual payment, retained firefighters also receive fees for emergency responses and training sessions."

To become a retained firefighter you need to be at least 18 years old, physically fit and live within five minutes' travelling time of the fire station.

You must also display qualities such as common sense, enthusiasm and commitment.

Anyone who would like further information on the retained duty system should contact Auchtermuchty fire station on a Monday night or phone Tom on 01592 741666.

The opportunity is also posted on the jobs page of this porta. Click the link below for more.
