Festival Footie winners & Lomond United Poland trip update

From Bob Beveridge, Monday, 28th July, 2008

Congrats to Falkland Festival 5-aside winners:

  • Fife's Fittest from Dunfermline (adults) and
  • Fearless Five (U16s).

18 adult and 12 junior teams entered. Thanks to Lomond United AFC and Helen McBain for organising.

Poland Trip

Local side Lomond United AFC recently returned from a trip to Poland, where they played a pre-season friendly against KS Chelminianka from Chelmno. They were based in Gdansk for 5 nights, and after a 3 hour bus trip through the Polish countryside, they arrived in their kilts to be met by the press who accompanied them the whole day!

The President and Mayor of Chelmno welcomed the team with a Town Hall reception where every player received gifts and a plaque was presented to the team.

During the game itself, the home side (who are professionals) were stunned when Lomond United were twice winning, but lost in the end 6-3.

The Falkland amatuers left the field to a standing ovation from the large home crowd - an incredible experience for the players who recorded the game and the day onto a DVD.

Lomond United have been invited back to Poland in July 09 to take part in a 6 team tournament involving 5 professional teams.
