The site of a former Falkland nursing home is to be given a new lease of life.

And it could create over 100 new jobs.

Edward House is to be re-developed, with the  demolition of the existing buildings and construction of a purpose built 50-bed replacement on the site.

The home was closed over two years ago and residents moved to the new Preston House home in Glenrothes.

Owners Colin and Margaret Smart said a contractor would be appointed shortly and it is hoped that work will commence in the spring, providing construction jobs during the build process and creating around 60 much needed permanent full-time positions for the area once the home is fully operational.

Mr Smart said: "As a care home, the old building wasn't fit for purpose, so the best course of action was to demolish it and build a new state-of-theart home in its place.

"I will also be in discussions with the local Community Council with a view to minimising disruption to local residents during the construction period."

Following a specific request by a local resident, the new home will revert to its previous name - Lomond Vale - when it re-opens, something which it is anticipated will happen in spring next year
