Courses in family history research
From Fife Herald,
Friday, 3rd July, 2009
Elmwood College is responding to the growing popularity of family history research by offering two six-week courses on the subject.
The introduction course enables students to start their family history research and teaches them how to use the main websites where birth, marriage and death events can be found.
The second course introduces further areas of study, including learning about specialist software for recording data and printing charts and reports.
Students are also encouraged to continue with their own research between classes. The courses concentrate mostly on Scottish research, but other parts of the British Isles are included and help given to access other records where appropriate.
Tutor, Lesley Bathgate said "It is always very rewarding to see the progress that is made, the camaraderie that develops and all the personal discoveries in student family trees that come to light during the course.
"I often bump into former students from several years back and given an update on how their research is going. These classes are proving to be very popular and we plan to run the course again in September."
Anyone interested in starting the class after this summer should contact Linda Murray on 01334 658868 or Jacky Carstairs on 01334 658721.
