FIFE Council has been urged to hit illegal dumpers where it hurts - in their wallets!
Miles Briggs, the Conservatives' prospective MP candidate in North East Fife, has called on the local authority to report all cases of fly-tipping and illegal dumping to the procurator fiscal.

Mr Briggs said: "I have been shocked at the number of constituents who have contacted me regarding the illegal dumping of waste across North East Fife, particularly at passing points on rural roads.

"Fly-tipping seems to be on the increase. This is totally unacceptable behaviour and needs to be stopped.

"It's important that we keep our countryside looking beautiful for our enjoyment and that of visitors to the area.

"Fife Council needs to act to hit criminals where it hurts - in their wallets!"

Mr Briggs went on: "Local authorities in Scotland appear not to report cases to the procurator fiscal or use their powers to serve notices requiring removal of waste.

"Local people can also play a role in making sure that their waste doesn't end up being illegally dumped.

"If you decide to hire someone privately instead you should make sure they are authorised waste carriers.

"Remember, if you give your waste to someone who is not authorised, you could be the one that's charged with committing an offence if it turns up illegally dumped."
