Green Business Fife success
From Fife Direct News,
Friday, 18th July, 2008
Green Business Fife, Fife's business environmental networking group has proved very successful since its conception at the start of last year.
The group was set up to help Fife businesses use their resources more efficiently and effectively and to give them the chance to get together to have their say on what environmental issues they would like help with, whilst sharing their experience and knowledge. By doing this businesses can improve their productivity and competitiveness and take advantage of opportunities which emerge from a greater commitment to 'going green'.
During the last 15 months over 10 free business events have been held on a range of environmental topics, from how organisations can increase their energy efficiency and effectively manage and recycle their waste to looking at the potential of biomass and on-site renewable technologies. All have been extremely successful with a healthy attendance at every event.
As well as the events a number of best practice tours have also taken place, including a visit to Michelin's on-site wind turbines in Dundee and to the Fairmont St Andrews Hotel. These tours give people the chance to see for themselves how other companies have made real life changes and benefited from becoming more environmentally friendly.
Commenting on Green Business Fife's success to date, Chair of Fife's Environment Enterprise and Transportation Committee, Councillor Tony Martin, said: "A high number of local companies have shown a great deal of interest in the events and tours that have taken place so far. It's very pleasing to know that they want to be part of this group.
"Being the greenest council in Scotland is at the heart of the Council's objectives and we believe that Green Business Fife has a key role in helping us to achieve this. We will continue to work with and support businesses wherever we can with regard to their environmental issues.
"It really is a win win situation for all involved with the aim of working towards a greener, cleaner Fife."
The next Green Business Fife event is a free workshop on Construction Waste Synergy and is in conjunction with the Fife Construction Forum. It will take place on Thursday 21st August at the Dean Park Hotel, Kirkcaldy.
