Colin Lindsay, Freuchie's Ochil Villa B&B owner, is set to make a stir in the world of 'oat cuisine'.

Colin  is one of 15 porridge perfectionists who this Sunday will battle it out for the prestigious title of world porridge-making champion.

He'll be up against the cream of porridge makers from all over the country, all hoping to win the coveted Golden Spurtle award.

Contenders have to impress the judges with a traditional bowl of porridge made with oatmeal and water as well as a 'speciality porridge' using other ingredients.

Colin (66), who was brought up in Cupar, was encouraged to enter the event by two food writers who stayed at Ochil Villa.  They reckoned he was on to a winner with the porridge he served up for breakfast.

"Porridge is a very simple dish, so the secret of success lies in the quality of the oatmeal," said Colin.

"I'll be using freshly-ground oatmeal from Hogarth's Mill in Kelso, along with the right amount of water and salt to ensure it's the correct consistency.

"My speciality porridge recipe I'm keeping close to my chest for now, but it will definitely be savoury rather than sweet and is likely to include stout."

The world porridge-making championships, being held this year for the 15th time, are taking place in Carrbridge, Inverness-shire.
