Scout News: Craig Robertson receives the Queens Scout Badge

From David Gordon, Monday, 7th April, 2008

At a special Awards Ceremony held in Cupar last week, Craig Robertson of Roy Cottage, Church Place, was presented with the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award and also the Queen's Scout Badge.  Craig will receive his Gold Award from the Duke of Edinburgh at a ceremony at the Palace of Holyrood House during the summer, and has been invited to attend the St. George's Day Queen's Scout parade in April at Windsor Castle.  The Queen's Scout badge is the most prestigious badge which a Scout can gain, and in the absence of the Fife Lord Lieutenant, it was presented to Craig by Fife Deputy Lieutenant Mr. Graham Bennet.  Mr. Bennet spoke highly of the achievements of Craig as he gained both his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Awards prior to gaining the Gold Award, and also outlined his work with Freuchie Scout Group as a Scout and Young Leader and his association with the District Explorer Section.  As part of Craig's journey for his Gold Award, he undertook to do a sponsored walk on the West Highland Way, raising £850.00 for both Alzheimer's Scotland and Cancer Research.  Craig is an excellent ambassador for Scouting, and is the first ever Queen's or King's Scout in Freuchie, an honour gained as the Scout Group prepares to celebrate its centenary in 2009.  Presently Craig is studying Biochemistry at Glasgow University.
