Industrial action affecting Fife Council's contact centre has been called off. Contact centre workers had been due to strike from Monday for a week over a national pay dispute.

Trade union UNISON today (Friday) said it would suspend next week's selective action following an improved pay offer from Scottish local government.

Union members will be consulted on the new offer of a three per cent rise for this year and 2.5 per cent next year.

Fife Council Leader, SNP Councillor Peter Grant said: "I am pleased the strike has been called off and there will be no disruption to Fife Council services this coming week.

"The new offer on the table marks real progress in these discussions and I hope council staff will be able to accept the offer and bring an end to this dispute."

Sharon McKenzie, Fife Council HR Manager said: "We're very pleased that the unions are consulting with members on COSLA's renewed pay offer and hope a resolution to this dispute is now close.

"Now that the planned action has been called off, there will be no disruption to council services and therefore no disruption to the public.
