Evening & Leisure Classes: from Sep 2010

Search for an evening or leisure classes to suit you. Classs are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from Sept 2010.

Pre-school Education

Parents of infants and preschoolers meet regularly during Freuchie Playhour. There's also Stepping Stones Playgroup, more structured play for children aged 2 years and over.

Primary Education

Freuchie Primary school has approximately 100 pupils spread over 5 classes plus 20 children in the nursery. The school has 7 school aims, one of which is to provide a welcoming, safe environment in which pupils, parents and the wider community can work together in a mutually supportive partnership. The school has an Out of School Club which operates locally during the school holidays. There is an active Parent Council which runs events throughout the year and a Pupil Council who raise issues of concern to pupils.

Freuchie primary's main building is Victorian

St Columba's RC Primary serves the Catholic community of Cupar and the Howe.

Secondary Education

Children completing primary education usually choose to go to Bell Baxter High School in Cupar or St Andrew's RC High School in Kirkcaldy.

There are also fee-paying schools in St. Andrews, Perth and Dundee. Visit the Scottish Council for Independent Schools website for a comprehensive list.

Further & Higher Education

Local colleges include Fife's Elmwood College in Cupar and Adam Smith College in Glenrothes/Kirkcaldy. Carnegie College in
Dunfermline and Perth College is also a 30 minute drive away.

University education is provided at nearby St. Andrews (Fife's only university and Scotland' first), Dundee and Abertay (Dundee).

Alternatively the Open University of Scotland provides flexible support, tailored to the needs of the individual student and their area of study and is ideally suited to those based rurally.

Lifelong Learning

On-line learning means using computers instead of books or teachers to learn about a subject. Digital Fife run a series of free courses for community groups, in computing and using the internet. You can learn at your own speed and go back at any time to brush up on a subject. 

The Adult Basic Education Service in Fife provides free tuition for adults wanting to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, spelling, arithmetic and basic maths. Alternatively check out the range of courses on offer at your local Howe of Fife Learning Centre or in Freuchie library.

Learning doesn't just have to be about formal qualifications either you can develop a personal interest or hobby, learn new skills, brush up on old ones, or just have fun too. Elmwood College runs a series of ongoing Evening & Leisure classes on subjects as diverse as hair, horticulture, multimedia and languages.
