Planning guidance on wind energy and renewable energy technologies in Fife were approved by councillors at today's Planning Committee.

Councillor John Beare, Chair of the Planning Committee welcomed the report: "There has been much interest in the development of wind energy and renewable energy technologies in Fife. Whilst we have a commitment to the implementation of sustainable development and renewable technologies we have to balance this against the impact on communities.

The approval of the 'Supplementary Planning Guidance: Wind Energy' to become Fife Council's policy means that prospective developers will have clear guidance on areas in Fife that can accommodate windfarm developments and their potential scale. The publication of 'Customer Guidelines on Renewable Energy Technologies other than Wind Energy' will provide clarity to prospective developers of commercial scale technologies including hydropower and solar design. It will also provide clarity for communities about how applications are considered.
