From David Gordon,
Monday, 28th April, 2008
SCOUT NEWS. Cubs and Scouts are taking part in the Jamoree on the Trail event on 10th May. Cubs will be walking in Falkland Estate, and Scouts will be cycling between Freuchie and Strathmiglo. Both Cubs and Scouts are using these events to attract sponsorship, and look forward to receiving support from the public.
SCOUT GROUP A.G.M. Mr. David Gordon, Chairman, welcomed a very good attendance at the annual general meeting held last week in the Scout hall. The low membership of the executive committee last year had proved to be unsatisfactory, and an appeal is still being made for adults to serve as leaders. The Cub Section particularly will need leaders after the summer break. Membership of both the Cub and Scout sections is higher than it has been for some time, so adult help is urgently required. Both sections have taken part in a wide variety of events over the past year, and could do even more with additional help. The Scout Group is still financially sound, but incurred a large deficit last year. Fund-raising events are planned, the first being sponsored walks and cycle runs by the Cubs and Scouts on 10th May - look out for sponsored sheets coming your way! Officials appointed for the coming year are - Chairman - David Gordon; Secretary - Peter Southcott; Treasurer - Jim Clark; Executive Committee - David Clunas, Shane McKeown and Judith Stronza were appointed, the remaining five members not due to be re-elected this year. There is still one vacancy to fill. The Peter M. Gordon Trophy for the best Cub was presented to Russelll White by Margaret Jones, Assistant District Commissioner for Cub Scouts, and the David Robertson Trophy for the best Scout was presented to James McKeown. Margaret Jones also presented the Wood Badge to John Craig, Cub Scout Leader, in recognition of having completed all of his adult leader training. Refreshments were served following the business of the evening.
