The picturesque village of Freuchie is situated at the foot of East Lomond Hill.

The name 'Freuchie' derives from the Scottish Gaelic, fraoch, meaning heather.  Local tradition has it, that in the 16th century, Freuchie was the place where the French masons who worked on Falkland Palace lived.

It also served as a place of exile for disgraced courtiers from the Palace, and that this is where the phrases ‘Awa tae Freuchie, whaur the froggies live' and ‘Awa tae Freuchie and eat frogs' originates!

More recently, Freuchie is perhaps best known for its Cricket Club, who against all odds, won the village cricket championships at Lord's in 1985.

Of course there's much more going on in the village. From cricket to commerce and brownies to bowling, Smart Community Fife urges you to share information with your community via this portal.
