T in Park gets licence until 2012

Measures taken by organisers of T in the Park have helped ensure that the festival will remain in Kinross-shire for at least the next three years.
Representatives from DF Concerts met Perth and Kinross Council's special licensing committee yesterday to discuss the application.
With a total of 25,000 campers expected on the Balado site on the Thursday evening and a further 70,000 due to descend on the Friday, the organiser stressed that stringent security and traffic-calming measures would also be put in place.
Two new fields have been acquired by DF Concerts, which will be used to accommodate the extra campers and the expected increase in cars.
Event manager Colin Rodger said, "After the queueing problems of 2007, we readjusted the arrangements to allow us to be able to cope if everyone comes on the Friday.
"The fact is that we can manage the queues and can deal with them quickly.
"We can open more entrances because we have more than we need, allowing us to deal with any queues swiftly.
"On top of that, we have a PA system so we can speak to people waiting, so if there is a delay or a first aid issue we can let them know.
"It is a very intense science behind the flow of people coming in."
A representative from Tayside Police praised the traffic management of the festival, stating it was "the envy of similar events."
Assurances were also given that residents of nearby properties can contact people on site if they have any issues with noise.
Leaflets displaying a dedicated phone number will be handed out in the weeks leading up to T in the Park.
However, Mr Rodger did add that, although they could stop amplified noise, there was nothing they could do to "stop the Scottish spirit" of festival-goers.
Despite the massive amounts of rubbish dumped on the site last year, the festival was commended for being "one of the best ever in terms of organisation."
Speaking about the clean-up, council solicitor Geoff Fogg said, "Our finding was that the organisers appreciated there was a problem and they weren't too precious about asking for help from the council. It showed the maturity of our relationship."
Members of the special licensing committee approved the application and noted that more details will be discussed at a future meeting.
Convener Peter Mulheron said, "All I can say is that I hope that the next three years run as well as the last three."
