Tragically, a pedestrian has been killed in a road accident in Auchtermuchty, Fife.

Alexandra Elder, a 67-year-old local woman, was hit by a car at 1220 GMT on Station Road in the village, which forms part of the B936 Falkland to Auchtermuchty road.

The road was closed for several hours to allow accident investigation work to be carried out at the scene.

Fife Police said the vehicle involved and driver were traced at the scene, however they are keen to speak with anyone who may have information about the accident or indeed anyone who may have been driving in the Auchtermuchty, Dunshalt or Falkland areas around noon. Anyone who noticed anything untoward on these specific roads at that time, in particular involving a silver coloured Vauxhall Corsa car or a red BMW sports car is urged to contact Fife Police on 01592 251111.
