Community Assets in Falkland & Newton of Falkland

The Community

Falkland and Newton villages have a strong community ethos. Local people and organisations are encouraged to work together with anchor organisations to renew and develop a sustainable future that will last well into the 21st century.

Some of the assets and the challenges facing the village were identified in summer 2007, when local people took part in consultation exercises during the regular events run in the village.

Community Facilities

  • Falkland Village Hall was found to be the most important asset to the community, providing well utilised facilities for a large number of organisations. The large hall, complete with stage, can seat 160. It also has a small meeting room plus a kitchen with serving facilities and recently upgraded toilets.

  • The smaller Newton of Falkland Village Hall is also a valued home to many clubs and societies, and can be hired for parties and get-togethers.

  • Falkland Town Hall (managed in conjunction with Falkland Palace by the National Trust for Scotland) has a large, light, airy hall which can be rented for public use (capacity 40 seats theatre style). It has basic kitchen facilities and toilets but is not suitable for disabled access. The town hall also has a small and interesting display on the history of the Burgh which is open to the public on weekends and ad-hoc weekdays during spring & summer months. Admission is free.

  • Falkland Society has an archive reference collection of resources held in the Falkland Society Room at Falkland library.
