Procurement do the biz locally

From Fife Direct News, Monday, 15th September, 2008

Keith Grieve at the expo with procurement officers, Derek Hamilton and Alan RossBusinesses in Fife had the opportunity to meet Fife Council's Procurement Team at the Fife Business Show 2008, held in the Rothes Halls, to find out more about becoming a local authority supplier.

Keith Grieve, Team Leader in Procurement and Supplies said: "This was a great opportunity for local companies to find out more about doing business with Fife Council. We spoke to over 100 people on the day.

"We already source 25% of our services locally covering a range of commercial interests such as food, clothing and recycling services.

"We're keen to do more business on a local basis to support the local economy and reduce the number of miles goods travel before they reach us.  Becoming the leading green council and improving conditions for economic development are both council priorities that our procurement strategy can influence.  Our new procurement policy commits us to doing business locally wherever possible, being greener and using services from voluntary and charitable organisations.

"Anyone who wasn't able to see us at the Rothes Halls can log onto fifedirect and find out the business opportunities available or they can email me direct at keith.grieve@fife.gov.uk"

Other Fife Council services being promoted at the event were the Business Property Information Service and the Green Business Fife network.

Fife Council is an official sponsor of The Business Show.
