Our first theme this year, Myth and Legend offers a more contemporary look at a subject that has long inspired and influenced poets - from classical Greek mythology to the stories of the Old Testament, fairy tales, Celtic and Norse legends. In keeping with this, in his lecture for StAnza 2010, Grevel Lindop will revisit Graves's The White Goddess, and our StAnza Masterclass invites submissions on myth and legend, to be considered by Moniza Alvi whose own most recent collection is Europa.

The second theme is a unique tribute to Festival Director Brian Johnstone who steps down in May 2010 after 10 years in post. We have specially invited one favourite artist, plus his personal ‘wish list' of poets, some new, some favourites from previous festivals, who will feature in the special strand of 'Director's Cut' readings which he will introduce.

Cafe Spirituel: Pillars of Hercules

Our next Cafe Spirituel will be held March 18th with Julia Ogilvy, author of 'Turning Points: Stories that will Change your Life'.
