Dark Skies Workshops: Falkland

Explore the skies with help from the team of the Royal Observatory Edinburgh and their Star Lab.

There are 3 workshops (45 minutes each) at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm in the Starlab followed by hands-on activities (another 45 minutes) including comet making demonstrations, rocket making and launching.

6.30pm to 8.30pm: Introducing the Night Sky. Join us for some star gazing (and an astronomy talk if the skies aren't clear). All workshops restricted to 25 people so please book in advance. There is no charge for these workshops but please feel free to make a donation to the work of Falkland Centre for Stewardship. Refreshments available.

StAnza 2010: Scotland's Poetry Festival

Each festival focuses on two themes which weave around each other to give every StAnza its own unique flavour. Our first theme this year, Myth and Legend offers a more contemporary look at a subject that has long inspired and influenced poets - from classical Greek mythology to the stories of the Old Testament, fairy tales, Celtic and Norse legends. In keeping with this, in his lecture for StAnza 2010, Grevel Lindop will revisit Graves's The White Goddess, and our StAnza Masterclass invites submissions on myth and legend, to be considered by Moniza Alvi whose own most recent collection is Europa.

The second theme is a unique tribute to Festival Director Brian Johnstone who steps down in May 2010 after 10 years in post. We have specially invited one favourite artist, plus his personal ‘wish list' of poets, some new, some favourites from previous festivals, who will feature in the special strand of 'Director's Cut' readings which he will introduce.

Creative Flower Painting Workshop, Ladybank

Submerge your creative self in an abundance of beautiful flowers, inspiring images and art materials and create your own flower portraits with the help of Kirsty's support and experience. The workshop offers the chance to learn from reputed flower painter Kirsty Lorenz in her bright, unusual and inspiring studio in the 'Old First Aid Rooms' on Platform 2 of Ladybank Station.

Each workshop costs £40 per day. This includes all materials, tea, coffee and snacks. The workshops can be taken for one day only, or two consecutive days can be done to make more intensive progress and complete a more ambitious piece of work.
