  1. Fife Youth Orchestra: St Andrews

    The seventy five members of Fife Youth Orchestra come together again this month for their second performance series of the season. Joining the orchestra will be Dr. James Gourlay - a Fifer - but now a world authority and star performance on the tuba as well as a renowned conductor.  He will play the Tuba Concerto written for him by Bruce Fraser.  These performances will be the first with orchestra and the first Scottish performances. Other music to be played by the orchestra includes Orkney Wedding with Sunrise by Pete Maxwell Davies, the overture to Mastersingers by Wagner and Miss Saigon.

  2. Have your say on conservation in Falkland, Cupar & St Andrews

    Residents in East Fife are invited to come along to a series of drop-in events to find out more about the Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan in their local area. Fife Council Development Services has prepared Draft Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans for three conservation areas in north east Fife, including Central St Andrews, Cupar and Falkland. These appraisals are management tools to help to identify the special historic and architectural interest of an area and provide the basis for identifying a programme of actions and measures to protect and enhance the conservation area.

    Copies of the Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans for the relevant area will be available for residents to read and comment on in the local libraries from Monday 15- Friday 19 February. Fife Council staff will be in attendance to answer any queries relating to the Conservation Area Appraisal in:

    • Cupar Library on Wednesday 17 February from 5-7pm;
    • Falkland Library on Friday 19 February from 2-4 pm; and
    • St Andrews Library on Thursday 18 February from 5-7pm, and Friday 19 February from 10-12noon

  4. Live @ The Steeple: Rancho Rebop and the Full Moon Howlers

    Rancho Rebop and the Full Moon Howlers are coming to The Steeple in Newburgh for an exciting concert on Friday 19th February at 7.30pm.
     
    This is an excellent opportunity to hear this exciting fusion of some of Perthshire's finest players from some of the top bands:
     
    Pete Caban from Wang Dang Delta on guitar and vocal
    Ian Mclaren from Wang Dang Delta on guitar, ukulele and vocals
    Adam Bulley from Wingin' It on mandolin
    Jim Kerr on fiddle and vocals
    Owen Nicholson, ex-Southpaw on dobro
    Pete Honeyman who plays with many bands on double bass
     
    Rancho Rebop and the Full Moon Howlers perform bluegrass, Americana and western swing material. The diverse musical backgrounds of the band members imparts a unique flavour with touches of blues, soul, country, jazz and Scottish traditional sounds. It promises to be a lively fun evening of great music.
     
    Tickets are available from Twist Fibre opposite The Steeple on the High Street in Newburgh costing £10 or £12 on the door on the night. Children get in for £5.
