  1. Falkland Transition - Movie Tuesdays

    A few folk interested in making Falkland a Transition Town meet regularly in the Stables Workshop (beside the car park by the fish pond). In September, we are having a series of Movie Tuesdays, showing thought-provoking and informative films to get us talking about how we can make the changes in our lives needed to live more lightly. All welcome. 2nd September, 7.30 pm: What are we waiting for? 9th September, 7.30 pm: Crude Awakening 16th September, 7.30 pm: The end of suburbia This will be followed by a series of Book Nights, when we will share some riveting reads on relevant themes – lots of inspiring stuff you may perhaps have heard of but never found the time to read: 28th October, 4th & 11th November, 7.30pm. We are also planning guided walks and cycle rides to get to know each other and our local area, social nights with local food and drink, and to help with your gift-buying dilemmas, a pre-Christmas swap shop!
  2. Strath Community Assoc: Senior Citizens Summer Drive

    The Strathmiglo Community Association summer drive departs the Strathmiglo Bowling Club at 12 noon for Pitlochry via Blairgowrie and Moulin Moor, return via Dunkeld. High tea provided. The drive should be back by 8pm. Cost £5 per qualifying person, payable on the day. Subject to availability guests are allowed, cost 310pp. To qualify you must be over 65 years (for men, 60 for women) and be resident in Strathmiglo. Invitations will be issued to qualifying households on or before 20 August, for completion and return to Strath Post Office by 28 Aug. we hope to fill a 52-seater bus.     The Annual Show will be held in the Victoria Hall, Auchtermuchty on September 6th. All the usual classes including crafts, baking, garden produce plus the photographic section which was so popular last year. Something for everyone.   5. Monimail Medieval Fair

  7. Falkland Conservation Group Taster Day on Falkland Estate

    If you were thinking about volunteering but haven't yet given it a try then come along to this taster day - for the whole day or just drop in during the afternoon. Morning: a walk through the Maspie and Coalpit Dens to see work in progress and plans for the future. Afternoon: A workshop on monitoring, recording, practical wildlife management, helping visitors and other projects. Meet in the Stables Workshop, Falkland Estate. Refreshments provided.   9. Flowers of Falkland

    In celebration of Percy Cane Gardens at Falkland Palace 60th Anniversary, an event has been organised to enjoy the garden flowers. The event will start with a garden tour, led by the Head Gardener, where visitors will able to learn about Falkland Gardens and flowers. This will be followed by a flower arrangement demonstration & lecture given by Ann Monroe, using flowers from the gardens for her arrangements. The arrangements will be inspired by the garden's history, from 1451 (the date of the first gardens and gardener's records) through 1948 (the creation of the Percy Cane Pleasure Gardens), to the present. Refreshments will be served during the interval. Price: £10 for non-NTS members, £5 for NTS members

  16. Falkland Estate Fish Pond Tales

    Come and tell us your stories about the Fish Pond (or duck pond as most people know it). As part of a project to celebrate and restore and historic fish pond of Falkland Estate we are recording people's memories of this special place. Do you have any special stories of the pond that you would like to share? Come along to the pond and help record 'The Fish Pond Tapes'. We'll be there between 2pm and 6pm on Friday 12th September and then from 12noon to 4pm on Saturday 13th September. If the weather's bad then we'll be in the Workshop (round the back of the Stables). Project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Project organised by Falkland Stewards

  19. Auchtermuchty Fife Station Charity Car Wash

    National Car Wash, the Firefighters Charity, hopes to raise funds by washing as many cars as possible on Sat 13th Spetember at Auchtermuchty Fife Station. National Car Wash has supported over 13,500 men, women and children from the fire community in the last twelve months. Let us was your car, and we can help even more.

  21. Traditional Music Workshop

    The Auchtermuchty Festival Society in partnership with Elmwood College, is holding a series of traditional music workshops in the Auchtermuchty Town Hall. Workshops offer tuition in guitar, fiddle, tin whistle, mouth organ, accordian and keyboard. Includes special sessions for beginners. All adults and children from 8 upwards welcome to attend (an adult must accompany children under 10). Next 2 workshops are 28 Sept and 12 Oct.

  28. Sealed Knot Attack on Falkland Palace

    There will be a 17th Century battle re-enactment, skarvage, period cooking, and you can learn about period clothing, herbs and their medicinal uses, weapons and battle strategies. The Sealed Knot helps bring history alive every year at period houses throughout the country, and you can talk to major historical figures, try out a few recipes, learn about the life of a soldier on the march and maybe even "take the King's shilling". What better way to teach children about the period than with a little "hands-on" experience. Times: Saturday 20 September 10am-5.00pm, Sunday 21 September 1pm-5pm.   33. Doors Open Day - Monimail Tower

    Doors Open Days give you free access to hundreds of fascinating buildings across Scotland. Members of the public are encouraged to come and explore this restored 16th century tower, the main remnant of the medieval palace of the Archbishops of St Andrews. Four storeys high with wide views from the roof. This year there will be local trained guides on site to take you around points of interest in Monimail's historic landscape. Tea and cakes available for sale as well as medieval crafts pottery, metalwork and apple pressing for cider making. Exhibition on history and restoration of the tower.
  34. Doors Open Day - Collessie Guided Walk

    Doors Open Days give you free access to hundreds of fascinating buildings across Scotland. This weekend it's your turn to explore places in Collessie that are normally closed to the public. The walk departs from the Village Hall at 2pm, and takes in Melville Tomb, the old post Office, early school building and the oldest thatched cottage in the village. Followed by teas and art courtesey of the Friends of Collessie Church. Come along and make the most of this rare chance to discover the heritage on your doorstep!

Come along and hear what restorers of this crow stepped 18th century lectern doocot, the Cupar & North Fife Preservation Society, have to say about the doocots history. The doocot is half-way up School Brae on the right. Please park at the foot of School Brae.

Cylindrical in form with sloping crow-stepped top added when converted from grinding corn to house pigeons. Heritage Lottery Funded restoration by Cupar and North Fife Preservation Society. car parking in the farm track, just west of the doocot.

The service will be followed by soup & a roll lunch in support of Christian Aid.     Come along and see for yourself the newly upgraded Muchty Church Hall. Improvements inlcude a new roof, a new central heating system, new wooden floor, fresh coat of paint and brand new fully-fitted kitchen. See for yourself what a useful community resource this is. There is no need to have a church connection to book any of the facilities on offer. The large, newly refurbished hall, the smart, well-equipped kitchen and the smaller meeting room are all available to hire at very competitive rates. So come along to see for yourself and have a cup of tea and a chat while you admire the recent improvements.

  52. Eco-Renovating Your Home

    The North Howe Transition Toun Group is organising an event to look at practical steps to reduce carbon emissions and fuel bills in the home. There will be a presentation by Pamela McLean about the Eco-renovation Network and its House Doctor events in Stirling and Crispin Hayes (Centre for Human Ecology) and Neil Stoddart (RealTech - renewable energy company) will share their eco-renovation knowledge & experience. There will also be information available on grants for eco-renovation projects. Please come along.
