Match report: Burntisland Shipyard 0-5 Strathmiglo United

From John Schofield, Sunday, 20th April, 2008

Match report by Alastair Jack

Strath made it to the Final of the Caledonian Cup (sponsored by Fence n Deck) with an excellent display of football that "dismantled" the Shipyard at Burntisland.

It was end to end stuff in the opening stages, home keeper Hutt denied Luke as Sampson did likewise to Thomson. Strath settled and began to take control, Nicoll and Duncan both came close before L. Baillie opened the scoring in the twentieth minute with a strong run and a crisp finish!.

Shipyard's chances were few, Noble headed wide from Livingston's corner and Mason looking suspiciously offside shot past the upright. Just before the interval the visitors doubled their lead when O'Leary volley'd home Baillie's cross.

The second period had barely started when the same combination struck again for Strath's third goal. It was pretty much one way traffic with Anderson, just on, just missing Grant's cross, Hutt had a point blank save from Luke, but on the hour mark the Shipyard keeper could only parry Finlay's shot and O'Leary nipped in to notch his hat trick!.

Ten minutes later Finlay swung in a free kick and who was first to reach the cross? non other than veteran "Para" Williamson who blasted a beauty high into the net as Strath went nap to cap a fine all round team performance.

Team: Sampson, Rennie, Patrick(Gay), Finlay, Williamson, Luke, Nicoll, Duncan(McIntosh), L.Baillie(Anderson), O'Leary, Grant. Subs not used: Dewar and Hutt.
