Fife's first Business Incubator opens in Kircaldy

Wednesday, 16th April, 2008

The building, based at Mitchelston Industrial Estate Kirkcaldy, offers young and start-up businesses low leases on a short term basis, making the units easy-in / easy-out for new businesses. The building also boasts 24-hour-access office-space and a wide range of business support services available on site including surgeries with Business Gateway advisers.

Jonathan Guthrie, Chief Executive of MGt plc, attended the event and gave a short speech about his personal experiences of starting up a business. He also spoke about the help and support he got from Fife Council at that time.

Derek Bayne, Lead Officer (Property Management) with Fife Council's Development Services, who is in charge of Business Incubator Kirkcaldy, commented: "These units will provide an economic boost by offering new commercial office floor-space and business growth opportunities. Hopefully, the companies that move in will build strong community links that will encourage businesses to remain in the area as they grow."

The first tenants of the new facility, Fife Business Services Ltd, also attended the opening. Director Shiona Wishart said: "This is a great facility for new businesses. After completing my employment with Tenon recently as Director of their Kirkcaldy office, I decided to start up a new business with Catherine Maciocia; also a qualified accountant. The units here are perfect for a young business like ours, so we're really looking forward to moving into our new office in the next couple of weeks.
