Fife Council Transportation Services is delighted to receive the prestigious Cycling Innovation Award from The Scottish Government's Cycling Scotland.

The award acknowledges the work that Transportation Services have done to develop cycling as a means of transport and leisure pursuit.  In particular, it acknowledges The Cycling Charter for Fife 2008-2013, which sets out priorities to encourage greater levels of cycling in Fife over the next five years and beyond.

It contains a programme of measures designed to promote greater levels of active travel, particularly amongst the young, as well as measures to improve safety and convenience for daily journeys.

Bill Wright, Chairman of Cycling Scotland, who presented the award to John Mitchell of Transportation Services, commented that the Charter showed a great commitment to get people cycling:

"The Charter shows best practice and innovation by bringing together so many elements of good practice in cycle promotion. Under one overall plan the charter incorporates work in schools, travel planning, multi-modal transport initiatives, incentives and infrastructure for council employees, a strong financial commitment, backing from senior management, a dedicated route network and a website to promote them, and more besides. It shows great commitment from Fife Council to get more people cycling."

This award confirms our position as the leading local authority in Scotland in developing cycling.
