Falkland’s past, present and future

From Marilyn Workman, Thursday, 25th February, 2010

On Friday 19 Feb 2010, a sparsely attended drop-in consultation was held in Falkland Library on the Draft Falkland Conservation Area: appraisal and management plan (January 2010).

This report was commissioned by Fife Council from Arc-Architects to ensure that the quality of the key conservation areas in Fife are both maintained and enhanced for the benefit of present and future generations.

The plan recognises that "Falkland is blessed with a community (local organisations and individuals) that have an active and informed interest in preserving, understanding  and enhancing life within their local area".

So, if you live in the Falkland area, or are interested in Falkland 's history, architecture, the public realm, gardening  heritage and visual landscape or just want to understand more about the full implications of living in a 'listed  property' and it's history, this document is a 'must read‘ for you .

The council is seeking feedback on this Consultation Draft, specifically on updating the listings contained in Appendix 2 - Schedule of Falkland's Listed Buildings before the document goes to the Fife Area Committee at the end of March 2010.

Now is your chance to find out more about Falkland's Conservation Area and to make your contribution towards the management, development and enhancement ideas that are outlined in this 'easy to read' and illustrated draft plan.
