Recreation in Auchtermuchty & Dunshalt Online

Auchtermuchty and Dunshalt offer a host of recreational opportunities in the community and its surrounds.

Open spaces

 Low Road Park, Auchtermuchty

Fife council run Low Road Park, home of the "famous" Auchtermuchty Bellvue AFC. The park offers a fine view of the Lomond Hills to the south and there is children's play equipment in the SE corner. The pitches are available to hire.

Dunshalt has a large and attractive children's play park on Ivy Place, overlooking rural farmland.

Walking

Auchtermuchty Common, managed senstively by the Macduff Trust has 4 distinct areas around Muchty, some of which offer pleasant walking. Check out The Whitefield in summer and you may be lucky enough to sport some of Britain's rarest butterflies.

The landmark Lomond Hills Regional Park with its expansive summit views, provides exceptional walking and recreational opportunities for locals and visitors alike.  Suggested Lomond Hills walking routes.

Cycling

Like most of the Howe of Fife, Auchtermuchty & Dunshalt are safe cycling environments for beginning and experienced bikers. Without a doubt, cycling is one of the best ways to experience the area's history at the same time as enjoying pleasant rolling farmland.

The excellent Kingdom of Fife Millennium Cycleway has many routes which pass through Auchtermuchty:The Ladybank - Auchtermuchty - Falkland circular route (which also passes through Dunshalt), is 15.5 miles (25km) on and off road and is suitable for older children. Or if off-roading is more your thing, check out the Newburgh - Auchtermuchty - Pitmedden route. Of course, for the more novice cyclists it's possible to complete shorter routes around the Howe - perfect cycling country.

Golf

Fife is famous for its golf courses. Whilst St Andrews is only a 30 minute drive from Auchtermuchty, Open Championship qualifying course Ladybank and Falkland's picturesque 9-hole golf course are only 5 and 10 minutes away respectively.

Fishing

Lindores Loch and Golden Loch north of Auchtermuchty offer year round bank and boat (fly only) fishing for a range of trout. The local wildlife around both Lochs is worth a look too, Osprey, Kites, Hawks, Swallows and Sandmartins giving much pleasure for those that are interested.
